Golden Eagles Set New Records at Southwest Classic
The Southern Miss menís indoor track and field team finished fifth with 39.50 points at the Southwest Indoor Classic, hosted by Houston, Saturday.

The Golden Eagles finished behind TCU (96.50), Abilene Christian (87.50), Baylor (61), and Houston (47.50).

Senior Bryan Bruner and sophomore Cedric Norman set new school records in their respective events. Bruner broke his old record in the weight throw, with a toss of 48'2", almost four feet better than his record. Norman broke a 14-year old record in the high jump, with a jump of 7'1", setting a new school record. The old record was held by Michael Smith, who set the record in 1988. Norman finished first in the high jump, while Burner won the weight throw. Bruner also finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 53'9". Norman also finished fifth in the long jump at 23'9".

In other action, Marvin Lucas finished second in the long jump, jumping 24'1". Michael Hardrick finished tied for third in the high jump with a jump of 6'7".

Southern Miss returns to action, Feb. 15, in the LSU Twilight Invitational.
