Two Golden Eagles Land Top Seeds At CCB Collegiate Invitational
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss men’s tennis and 11 other teams are set to compete at the 2017 CCB Collegiate Invitational hosted by the Country Club of Birmingham and the University of Alabama on Friday.
Two Golden Eagles are seeded in the top four for the singles draws. Chung Han Tsai is seeded at No. 4 in the White Singles draw and is slated to play Conference USA foe Stefan Gonzalez of UAB on Friday at 11:30 a.m. This is the second time this season Tsai will face a UAB opponent after defeating El Safadi in three sets at home at the Southern Miss Invitational.
Wen-Po Tseng is also slated in the White draw and will face Luca Wiedenmann of Tennessee at 11:30.
Daniel Merker was seeded at No. 2 in the Houndstooth Singles draw and is scheduled to face George Wong of Lipscomb Friday morning at 11:30. Mikhail Esipov is also set to face a Lipscomb opponent in Pedro Uribel at the same time.
After recent success at the ITA Southern Regional, Ronit Bisht will face ACC opponent Bojan Jankuloivski of Miami at 10 a.m. in the Crimson draw. Teeradon Totrakul rounds out singles play facing Tennessee opponent Adam Walton who’s seeded at No. 3. Tseng and Totrakul’s matchups are the first matches against an SEC opponent this season for the Golden Eagles.
All six Golden Eagles will compete in doubles play as well. Tsai and Tseng will face the No. 1 doubles seed of Ruetzel and Stewart of Tulane at 9 a.m. while Bisht and Merker play Cardenas and Manzanares of Lipscomb. Esipov and Totrakul’s match against Moreira and Petrovic of Samford is also set for 9.
Friday is scheduled for the first round of doubles play and two rounds of singles play for 48 matches.
