Men's Tennis Take On ITA Southern Regional
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss men’s tennis team continues its fall season this weekend at the ITA Southern Regional at the LSU Tennis Courts from Oct. 19-23.
This weekend’s competition fields 15 teams including five SEC opponents: Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Mississippi State and Ole Miss. Jacksonville State, Nicholls State, Samford, South Alabama, Troy, Tulane, UAB, ULL and UNO will also be in competition this weekend in Baton Rouge.
The tournament is slated to begin at 9 a.m. for the first round of singles qualifying that will feature Daniel Merker and Mikhail Esipov of Southern Miss. Merker earned a bye for the first round and will face the winner between Joaquin Vallejo of Jacksonville State and Johannes Klein of UNO at 1 p.m. Esipov is slated to face Sam Fischer of Alabama at 10 a.m.
The qualifying finals will continue at 9 a.m. on Friday followed by the Singles Round of 64 at 1 p.m. Chung Han Tsai will face Zhe Zhou of Alabama. The winner of that match will face Tim Dollman of UAB.
Wen-Po Tseng and Teeradon Tortrakul will both face players from Auburn for their first matches of the tournament. Ronit Bisht is scheduled to play the winner of a qualifier at 1 p.m. on Friday.
Doubles Round of 64 is set to begin at 4 p.m. on Friday with three Golden Eagles teams in competition. Merker and Bisht have a bye the first round and will face the winners of the match between two from Troy and Auburn at 5 p.m. on Saturday. Tsenf and Chung Han Tsai will face a pair from Nicholls State while Esipov and Tortakul will face a duo from Jacksonville State at 4.
