Men's Tennis Compete At The Battle On The Bayou
After a successful opening weekend, men's tennis travel to Lafayette.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - After winning the Southern Miss Invitational, the men's tennis team travels to Lafayette, La., for its first road contest of the fall season.
The weekend will consist of one flights of doubles play that is set to begin on Friday at 8:30 a.m. and two flights of singles play beginning on Friday at 11 a.m. Wen-Po Tseng and freshman Chung Han Tsai are seeded as the No. 1 doubles pair for the tournament and will face a duo from Alcorn State to start the tournament. The pair went 3-0 last weekend on court 1 at the Southern Miss Invitational.
Mikhail Esipov and Daniel Merker will make their debut together in doubles play when they also play a pair from Alcorn State. This will also be the first time Esipov and Merker play together in doubles play. Merker played all of last season with Jorman Reyes on court 1 finishing the season with a 17-3 record.
The Golden Eagles placed two players, Tsai and Ronit Bisht, in the top four for singles in flight 1. Tsai, who was seeded No. 2, will play Gabriel Niculescu of Xavier at 11 a.m. on Friday. Bisht will face Chris Anders also from Xavier at the same time. The next round of play will begin at 3 p.m. Esipov was seeded at No. 2 in flight 2 and will face Ernesto de Diego of Loyola at 11 a.m.
