Men's Tennis Host Southern Miss Invitational Opening Weekend
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- For the second straight season, the Southern Miss men's tennis team opens up its fall season hosting the Southern Miss Invitational on Friday, Sept. 29 and Saturday, Sept. 30.
The Golden Eagles will host C-USA foe UAB, two Sun Belt opponents in South Alabama and Louisiana-Lafayette and neighboring university, William Carey.
Friday's action will begin at 10 a.m. in singles action as Southern Miss battles UAB and South Alabama will pair with William Carey to play Lafayette. Singles play will continue at 2 p.m. with the Golden Eagles playing USA/William Carey and UAB facing ULL. Friday will conclude at 4 p.m. in doubles play with USM facing ULL.
Saturday will consist of two doubles matches and conclude with one singles match where Southern Miss will end the invitational competing against ULL at 1 p.m.
The Golden Eagles are coming off their best finish under coach Zubin Engineer with a 21-5 finish. The team returns top players in Jorman Reyes and Teerdaon Tortrakul who both finished with 10-plus wins along with seniors Daniel Merker, Mikhail Esipov and Wen-Po Tseng.
Freshman Chung Han Tsai and sophomore Ronit Bisht will also make their Golden Eagles debut this weekend.
