Men's Tennis Continue Home Stretch

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss men’s tennis team host three home matches this weekend beginning tomorrow at 2 p.m. against Youngstown State at the Southern Miss tennis courts.

The Golden Eagles scheduled a double header on Saturday against Mississippi Valley State at 10 a.m. and Alabama State at 2:30 p.m. The match up against Alabama State will be played at the Hattiesburg Raquet Club due to matches being scheduled in order to beat predicted bad weather.

Scouting the Opponents:
The Youngstown State Penguins are 0-2 heading into Friday afternoon’s match. The Penguins suffered two 3-4 losses to Duquesne and DePaul. The Penguins are scheduled to play West Alabama and Alabama State while in Hattiesburg.

Mississippi Valley State features four freshman, one sophomore, junior and senior. Southern Miss defeated the Trailblazers two times last season in straight sweeps. A 7-0 and 6-0 win gave the Golden Eagles its eighth and ninth win of the season last year.

Alabama State enters this weekend’s matchup 0-4 on the season. The first loss came against C-USA foe Middle Tennessee followed by Mercer, Samford and Point.

Highlighting Southern Miss:
The Golden Eagles swept Florida A&M last weekend for the first win of the season and coach Zubin Engineer gave the new players an opportunity to compete while resting Chung-Han Tsai and Mikhail Esipov. Tsai and Esipov have both found early success in the spring season.
