TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Southern Miss men's tennis team captured a championship draw, a consolation draw and placed another in a semifinal draw in concluding their fall season over the weekend.
Mike Elortegui finished the tournament with a 4-0 record, winning the Hannah Draw. Elortegui posted a three-set win over Jon Hunsicker of Samford, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, followed by another three-set victory over Takuma Ohashi of Tulane, 5-7, 7-6 (8), 6-3. Elortegui then defeated Harris Barnard of Alabama in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (5) before defeating Nicky Kunz of Davidson in the finals, 6-4, 6-3.
Jovan Zeljkovic topped Stephen Crofford of Chattanooga, 6-1, 6-1, and then knocked off Forrest Edwards of MTDU before losing in the semifinals of the Musso Draw to Michael Thompson of Alabama, 7-5, 6-2.
Alex Doleac dropped his first match in the Ingram Draw, but bounced back to win three matches in the consolation draw. Doleac lost to Jon Pine of Virginia Tech, 6-2, 6-0, then fought his way through the consolation draw with wins over Rob Ankner of Boston College, 6-2, 7-6 (5), Ryan Shidler of Samford, 6-2, 6-2, and Kevin Castelow of Virginia Tech, 7-6 (5), 6-1.
Max De Juan won his first match of the tournament with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 win over Kevin Castelow of Virginia Tech before losing to Patrick Elliott of Ball State, 6-3, 6-3.
Doleac and Zeljkovic teamed together in doubles to top Marko Lovrinovic and Zach Pine of Virginia Tech, 8-6. The duo then dropped a match to Daniel Shilder of Memphis and Dante Terenzio of Louisville, 8-2.
