Men's Tennis Turns in Solid Performances at the USTA/ITA South Regional

"I was pleased the way our guys came out played," Coach Ki Kroll said. "We faced some pretty stiff competition and our guys fought hard. They continue to show improvement each day because they work hard in practice."
Andrew Goodwin posted a pair of wins with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Rens Van Der Vis of Alabama in the second round. Goodwin, then defeated the No. 16 seed, Eliott Barnwell of Samford in a three-setter, 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-2. Goodwin lost his fourth-round match to No. 41-ranked James Chaudry of Mississippi State, 6-2, 6-0.
Matt Frost opened play with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Andres Sanchez of Troy before falling to Romain Bogaerts of Mississippi State, 6-4, 6-3.
Vasco Valverde lost to Daniel Bustamante of Troy, 6-2, 6-1 while Paulo Alavardo lost to Chris Helliar of UAB, 6-4, 7-6 (7) in opening rounds. Alvarado lost to Mansingh Athare of Troy in the consolation bracket, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2. Valverde advanced to the third round with a walk-over, then, posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Lucas Dirube of UAB.
In doubles, Frost and Goodwin teamed up to defeat Pedro Dumont and Romain Bogaerts of Mississippi State, 8-5. Alvarado and Valverde recorded a 9-8 (5) win over Lukas Ollert and Michael Wardell of Auburn, before losing to the No. 7 seed Shayanne Vaezzaheh and Daniel Leitner of South Alabama, 8-5.
Frost and Goodwin continued to roll in doubles' play, the duo defeated the No. 6 seed from Tulane Idan Mark and Joe Young, 8-2, then advanced to the semifinals with a hard fought match over Becker O'Shaughnessey/Jarryd Botha of Alabama by a score of 9-7.
