Men's Tennis Sweep Singles Championships At Lafayette
LAFAYETTE, La. - The Southern Miss men's tennis team won both singles flights at the Battle on the Bayou Invitational in Louisiana on Friday. Ronit Bisht and Mikhail Esipov each took home hardware on Friday after their wins in Flights 1 and 2.
Bisht captured the flight 1 singles championship beating fellow Golden Eagles teammate Chung Han Tsai in the final. The semifinals in flight 1 featured four Golden Eagle: Bisht, Tsai, Wen-Po Tseng and Daniel Merker. Bisht won his first match 8-5 over Chris Anders of Xavier then beat Nikita Kostikov 8-2 of Alcorn State before defeating Tseng 8-5 in the semis.
Friday's tournament was Bisht's second tournament with the Golden Eagles and first tournament singles championship win.
Esipov also clinched a singles championship win in Flight 2 of the tournament after two easy wins to get to the semifinals. Esipov defeated his first two opponents 8-1 before defeating Gilheany of the host team Lousiana, 8-7 in the semis. Esipov clinched the tournament with an 8-1 win against Nico Sokja of Louisiana 8-1.
The team has now won its first two tournaments of its fall season.
