Men's Tennis Excel on Day One Of Invitational
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's tennis team concluded the first day of the Southern Miss Invitational with 11 combined singles and doubles victories.
The Golden Eagles started fall action against Conference USA foe, UAB. The first three wins of the day came from Teeradon Totrakul and newcomers Ronit Bisht and Chun Tsai Han. The last time the two sides met was in the C-USA tournament where the Golden Eagles defeated the Blazers 4-3.
Southern Miss faced South Alabama in singles play for the second round of action Friday and swept the Jaguars. Daniel Merker returned to court 2 where he competed predominantly last season and earned his first win of the season in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3. Mikhail Esipov and Wen-Po Tseng also secured wins in straight sets.
Bisht and Han went undefeated on the day after picking up wins with their respected doubles partners against Louisiana-Lafayette. Tseng and Han won easy on court 1 in doubles with a 6-1 win where as Bisht and Merker had more of a contest with a 6-4 finish on court 2.
The Golden Eagles will finish the tournament tomorrow, Saturday, with two more rounds of doubles and conclude the day against ULL in singles play.
