Golden Eagle Tennis Collect 11 Wins in Day Action of Southern Miss Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's tennis team finished day one with 11 total wins in the Southern Miss Invitational Friday at the USM Tennis Courts.

Three Eagles were perfect on the day in singles as Matt Frost defeated Rob Lee (Lamar), 6-2, 6-2 and David Zimmer (UAB), 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 while Andrew Goodwin defeated Mikko Rajamaki (Lamar), 6-2, 6-0; and Tom Puetz (UAB), 6-2, 6-4. Juan Escobar defeated Steven McMullan (Lamar), 7-6 (0), 6-2 and Luiz Felipe Pinto (UAB), 6-2, 6-2.

"I thought we had a good overall performance today," coach Ki Kroll said. "Everyone is working hard and getting better with every match we play."

Paulo Alvarado defeated Bruno Snyder (Lamar), 7-6 (4), 6-1 and Brad Marriott defeated teammate Inaki Belloso (USM); 6-4, 6-3. Belloso downed David Cooper (UAB), 6-0, 6-3.

The Golden Eagles also won two doubles' contest as Goodwin and Frost won 8-4 and Marriott and Escobar won 8-4.

Action continues Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m. with singles.
