ORLANDO, Fla. - The Southern Miss men's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 33 Memphis in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Championship at the UCF Tennis Complex Saturday morning. The match was delayed due to weather on Friday.
Southern Miss concludes its season with a 9-15 overall record while Memphis improved to 18-4 and advance to the semifinals to face the winner of No. 3 seed Rice and No. 6 seed SMU.
Opening with singles' play, the Tigers claimed wins at No. 6, 2, 4 and 1 for the victory. Alex Doleac dropped his match to Leon Nasemann 6-2, 6-4. Paulo Alvarado then dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Johnny Grimal on court two. Juan Escobar fell 6-3, 6-0 to Connor Glennon in the four spot before Memphis David O'Hare clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Matt Frost at No. 1.
Andrew Goodwin had battled No. 114 David O'Leary to a 6-6 tie and Inaki Belloso and Joe Salisbury split sets and were in the third when the match was called.
