NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Southern Miss men's tennis downed Belmont in tennis action on Friday with a 4-0 win over Belmont.
Southern Miss improved to 15-8 on the season while Belmont fell to 4-12.
The Golden Eagles opened the match taking the doubles with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Vasco Valverde and Benjamin Feldmann downed Fernando Mussolini and Navarro Veys, 8-4 on court 2. Matt Frost and Andrew Goodwin clinched the point after posting a hard-fought 9-7 win over Renato Antun and Henrique Norbiato. Paulo Alvarado and Juan Escobar held an 8-7 edge on court 3 over Bruno Silva and Henrik Claesson.
Heading into singles, Southern Miss took a 2-0 lead after a win on court 1 with Frost leading 2-0 before Norbiato retired. Goodwin followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2 against Antun. Valverde then clinched the match at No. 4 with a 6-4, 6-0 win against Silva.
Southern Miss returns to action on Saturday with a match at Middle Tennessee State.
