ARLINGTON, Texas - The Southern Miss men's team dropped a 5-2 match to UT-Arlington on Wednesday.
The Golden Eagles fall to 7-6 while UTA improved to 3-6.
The Mavs took the early lead by winning the doubles point as Yauheni Yakauleu/David Subirats defeated Paulo Alvarado/Juan Escobar 8-2 in the No. 2 spot. Mindaugas Celedinas/Soren Goritzka out battled Matt Frost/Brad Marriott combo, 8-5 at No. 1. Andrew Goodwin/Michael Elortegui combination downed Nicolas Moreno/Stefan Williams at No. 3, 8-6 to run their string of wins to eight.
UTA captured wins at 2, 5 and 1 to clinch the match. Goritzka defeated Alvarado, 6-2, 6-2 on court 2. Subirats knocked off Marriott 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 5 spot and Celedinas took down Frost at No. 1 by a score of 6-4, 6-1.
Rounding out singles' play, Inaki Belloso defeated Moreno in a three-set match, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 before Yakauleu out lasted Escobar at No. 3, 7-5, 6-3.
Goodwin posted his eighth-straight win at No. 6 by defeating Stefan Williams, 7-6 (7), 4-6, 10-3.
Southern Miss continues its spring break road trip with a match at SMU on Thursday before traveling to Fayetteville, Ark., to face No. 62 Wichita State on Mar. 17 and conclude with No. 36 Arkansas.
