Men's Tennis Drop First Home Match of the Season
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss men's tennis dropped its first home match of the season to UL-Lafayette 4-1 on Saturday morning.
Saturday's match snapped a three-match win streak for the Golden Eagles and also snapped a three-match losing streak for Louisiana. Southern Miss had won its last three home matches with 7-0 margins.
The Golden Eagles lost it's first doubles point of the season with losses on courts 1 and 2. Wen-Po Tseng and Chung Han Tsai also dropped their first doubles match of the season in Saturday's 7-6 loss. Daniel Merker and Jorman Reyes dropped their third doubles match of the season.
The Ragin' Cajuns took the 1-0 lead into singles play where they secured three wins to take the match. Tom Cecchetto dropped his second-ever match on court 1 after a 7-6, 6-4 battle. Cecchetto battled a tough first set that went to the tiebreaker but lost the match and falls to 4-3 in singles play.
Ronit Bisht falls to 6-4 in singles action and snaps a four-match win streak in singles. Bisht battled forced the tiebreaker in both sets but dropped the match on court 3 to Kramarov.
Jorman Reyes earned the lone point for Southern Miss on court 6 in a 6-4, 7-6 win and improves to 9-1 on the season, just two wins away from his win streak from last season.
Teeradon Tortakul also saw his two-match win streak snapped on Saturday. The 6-4, 7-6 battle on court 4 proved too much for Totrakul and Southern Miss dropped its first match at home 4-1.
Southern Miss (9-3) travels to Orlando for three matches next week facing Eastern Kentucky on March 12, Fairleigh Dickinson on March 14 and Butler on the 15. The Golden Eagles return home on March 22 to host DePaul at 2 p.m.
