Men's Tennis Sweep Both Matches in Double Header
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss men's tennis swept both Jackson State and Mississippi Valley State 7-0 on Sunday to improve to 8-2 on the season.
Wen-Po Tseng and Chung Han Tsai continue their unbeaten run in doubles play on Sunday with a 6-2 win against Jackson State and a 6-0 finish against MVSU. The pair are now 8-0 and have competed on court 2 for all eight matches.
Tom Cecchetto and Mieszko Kwasniewski improve their win streak to six after two wins on court 3.
Five of the six singles wins against the Tigers were won in straight-set fashion. Cecchetto won his third singles match of the season, first on court 2. Cecchetto was the lone Golden Eagle that needed three sets to secure the win.
Cecchetto's doubles partner Kwasniewski also won his third singles match against Jackson State with a 6-4, 7-6 finish.
The 7-0 win against Jackson State was the second sweep of the season for Southern Miss.
The second sweep of the day came against MVSU. All matches but Tseng's match in singles play finished with a 6-0, 6-0 finish.
Daniel Merker earned his first win of the season on court 5 defeating Jessie Bryant. Merker's doubles partner, Jorman Reyes has won seven in a row since the opening match of the season. Reyes is now 7-1 on his junior season.
Southern Miss hosts two matches next week against Belmont on Wednesday, March 7 and UL-Lafayette on Saturday, March 10 .
