Men's Tennis Team Blanks UC Riverside, 4-0

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Southern Miss men's tennis team defeated UC Riverside 4-0 on Saturday in the UNLV Classic.
Southern Miss improved to 4-2 while UC Riverside dropped to 0-4.
Southern Miss took the early 1-0 lead after winning the doubles' point. No. 60 Matt Frost and Andrew Goodwin made quick work of Julian Griffin and Marcus Vizcarra with an 8-1 win. Vasco Valverde and Inaki Belloso downed Julian Ruffin and Calvin Ngo, 8-4, at No. 2 to claim the point. Paulo Alvarado and Juan Escobar was leading 6-3 over Jimmy Roberts and Simon Peters when the match was suspended.
In singles, Goodwin put the Golden Eagles up 2-0 with his 6-0, 6-1 win on court 2 over Ruffin. Frost followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 against Roberts. Southern Miss clinched the match with Valverde knocked off Ngo, 6-2, 6-3 on court 4.
The remaining matches were suspended. Alvarado was leading Gaståo, 6-2, 5-3 when his match was halted. Brad Marriott won his first set 6-1 and was in a second-set tie breaker at 6-6 and was ahead 2-0 when the match ended. Belloso took the first set to his match 7-5 and was trailing 4-3 in the second set.
Southern Miss will conclude play on Sunday when the Golden Eagles face New Mexico State.
