Men's Golf Signee Named Florida Golfer of the Year

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss men's golf signee Michael Perez was named the 2011 Florida Dairy Farmers Boys Golfer of the Year, announced Monday.

Perez won the Class 1A State individual champion with a 36-hole total of 139 in early November. The senior from Westin, Fla., finished the season with an 18-hole stroke average of 70.64.

He set a record for most round under par with eight in 15 matches and his stroke average led all golfers in Broward County.

Perez is the 142nd-ranked player and the 60th-ranked golfer in the Class of 2012 by National Junior Golf Scorecard. He is also ranked 94th by Golfweek. He was named Second Team All-Broward County. He earned medalist honors at the District 22-1A Tournament with a four-under 68, leading American Heritage to the team title.

Perez earned three top ten finishes in junior action, earning medalist honors at the Qdoba Tournament of Champions with an eight-under 136. He also took home second-place at the American Junior Golf Association's Florida Open (-3) and eighth-place at the Florida Boys Junior Amateur (+2). Perez also competed in the Florida Amateur, taking home a 44th-place finish.
