Golden Eagles Host 2017 Sam Hall Intercollegiate
Hattiesburg, Miss. – The Southern Miss Men’s Golf team will begin the 2017-18 season with home course advantage as they host the 2017 Sam Hall Intercollegiate. The event will take place at the Hattiesburg Country Club, the home of both Golden Eagle golf programs.
“Our team is excited and ready to play,” said head coach Jerry Weeks. “We have had three straight weekends of qualifying to determine our starting lineup. We want to see how we stack up against some other players besides our on team members. The Hattiesburg Country Club is in fantastic condition. We are forecast to have perfect weather. I am looking for us to play very well.”
Sophomore Walker Kesterson (Hartsburg, Mo.) was the top finisher for the Golden Eagles in the event last season with a -3 total for the tournament. Senior Matt Codd (Red Deer, Alberta) fired a final round 67 in the 2016 Sam Hall Intercollegiate.
Following a T9th finish as an individual in the last go-around, which included a final round 65, senior Nathan Corchis (Water Sound, Fla.) will be in the starting lineup for Southern Miss. Sophomore Matt Lorenz (Gulf Shores, Ala.) and junior Derick Kelting (Amarillo, Texas) round out the starting five for the Golden Eagles this week.
Other teams participating in the tournament include Mercer, Missouri State, Rice, Sam Houston State, Samford, Southeastern Louisiana, Louisiana-Lafayette, New Orleans, South Alabama, UTA, and UTSA. The Golden Eagles will begin play on Monday paired with UTSA and Rice.
Southern Miss finished second in the event last year, carding a three-round total of -4, 848.
