HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss men's senior golfer Zach Estep has qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship, to be played August 12-18 at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass.

The Lawrenceville, Ga., native fired rounds of 71-67 to finish six-under par at the qualifier, played at Athens Country Club in Athens, Ga.

"I played really well," said Estep. "I made a few clutch putts down the stretch on the back nine and a lot of good par saves. It just feels good to finally get in after trying for the last five years."

Estep becomes the first Golden Eagle to play in the U.S. Amateur since Justin Emil, who qualified in 2002 and 2003.
