HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss men's golf assistant coach Eddie Brescher defended his MPGA Trustmark Invitational title over the weekend. The tournament was played at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss.
Brescher, who will begin his second season as an assistant coach, shot a final round 67 to come back from a six-shot deficit at the start of Sunday's final round. He shot a three-round total of 74-67-67/208 to win by one stroke.
"I was six shots back going into the final round and (T.J. Morgan) actually had a nine-shot lead with nine holes to go," said Brescher. "So going into the final round, realistically, I thought I was playing for second. I just went about my business without any idea of what was happening in the group behind me. When I got done, I was told that I might want to stick around for a playoff. A few minutes later, they told me I won by one. So I was happy, but it was also bittersweet. I am very, very honored to have won the MPGA once, much less twice. It is a great feeling."
