Men’s Golfer Hunter Atkins Wins USGA Amateur Qualifier Championship

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Rising Southern Miss sophomore Hunter Atkins fired a seven-under 135 with rounds of 67 and 68, Monday, to win the United States Golf Association (USGA) Amateur Regional qualifier at the Hattiesburg Country Club.

The one-day, 36-hole event saw Atkins convert nine birdies on the par 71 course on his way to besting three other competitors by one-stroke for the victory as 66 finished the event.

Atkins now advances to the USGA Amateur Championship, August 13-19, at the world famous Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, Calif.

The West Point, Miss., native joins two other former Golden Eagles who recently played in the USGA Amateur Championship which were Zach Estep (2013) and Kevin Brady (2014).
