Casey Fernandez Advances to Match Play of U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship
July 10, 2012
Midway, Utah - Southern Miss sophomore golfer Casey Fernandez has advanced to the match play portion of the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, held at Soldier Hollow Golf Course in Midway, Utah.
Fernandez tied for 10th-place through the first two rounds of stroke play. He opened with a one-over par 72. However, the McAlester, Okla., native came back with four birdies and an eagle to fire a three-under par 68 and finish two-under par through the first two rounds.
"I played pretty well yesterday," said Fernandez. "I just left a few shots out there. Today, I put myself in position to advance to match play. I got off to a really hot start, making a 15-foot birdie putt on the second hole and then chipped in for eagle on the third. That really got my momentum going and I really never looked back after that."
Fernandez will face Tyler Klava of Pace, Fla., tomorrow morning. The two will tee off at 10:40 a.m. CT.
