Men's Golf Starts at Old Waverly Collegiate Today
Due to the stormy weather, the tournament has been shortened to 36 holes and will start at 12 noon.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Fresh off a top-five finish at the FAU Slomin Autism Invitational, the Southern Miss men’s golf team looks to have another strong performance as they travel to the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship April 3-4. Ole Miss hosts the tournament at the Par 72, 7,088 yard Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Miss.
Leading the way for the Golden Eagles is C-USA Golfer of the Week, Derick Kelting (Amarillo, Texas), who finished in the top-five at last week’s Slomin Autism Invitational after firing a 68 in the final round.
The starting five also includes senior Ryan Argotsinger (Lee’s Summit, Mo.), who earned a top 10 finish last week in Florida, as well as junior Matt Codd (Red Deer, Alberta), sophomore Nathan Corchis (Water Sound, Fla.) and freshman Matt Lorenz (Gulf Shores, Ala.).
The 16-team field includes Chattanooga, Cincinnati, Kansas State, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana Tech, McNeese State, Memphis, Mississippi State, host Ole Miss, South Alabama, South Florida, Southeastern Louisiana, and Rice.
McNeese State won the event in 2016 with a two-over, three round total. Ole Miss golfer, Braden Thornberry, earned the individual title in 2016 with a seven-under total for the event.
Due to stormy weather that went through the area Sunday evening, the tournament has now been cut to a 36 hole event and will start at 12 noon on Monday.
