Men’s Golf in Louisiana for Second Spring Tournament
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss men’s golf team is in Lafayette, La. for the 33rd Louisiana Classics at the Oakbourne Country Club Feb. 26-27.
“This year’s Louisiana Classics is stacked with quality ranked teams,” said Head Coach Jerry Weeks. “We are excited to be a part of this elite field. We have had a great week of preparation. I looked forward to seeing how we compete this week."
The 6,866 yard, par 72 course will play host to Louisiana, Illinois, Texas A&M, Kent State, Louisville, Sam Houston State, Mississippi State, UMKC, UTSA, McNeese State, Rice, Toledo, ULM and Texas State.
The lineup for the tournament, Walker Kesterson, Nathan Corchis, Brian Richards, Willie Hammond and Derick Kelting, will be paired with Texas State and ULM for the first 36 holes and will start on holes 14-17.
Corchis is coming off a 12th overall finish, the fourth top-25 finish of his career, at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate. In Mobile, Corchis shot a 216 total, the second best relative to par score of his career, and collected his best finish since last season’s final tournament.
Hammond draws his second start of the season and the first back-to-back starts of his career. Matt Codd will also represent the Golden Eagles as an individual, getting paired with individuals from Sam Houston State and Rice for the first day.
