HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's golf team opens the 2014 spring season when it travels to Mobile, Ala., for the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate. The tournament, which will take place February 17-18, is hosted by South Alabama and will be played at the par-72, 7,212-yard Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course.
Participating in the tournament along with Southern Miss are 10 teams ranked in Golfstat's Top 100, led by 27th-ranked Auburn. Also in the tournament are No. 28 Wake Forest, No. 36 Kentucky, No. 41 Memphis, No. 53 South Alabama, No. 58 Georgia State, No. 71 Chattanooga, No. 79 Ole Miss, No. 84 Middle Tennessee and No. 98 Davidson.
Akron, Illinois State, Samford and Texas State are also participating.
Teeing off in the No. 1 position is senior Kevin Brady. The Brandon, Miss., native participated in four tournaments in the fall, averaging 75.08 strokes per round.
Senior Zach Estep is teeing off in the No. 2 position. The Lawrenceville, Ga., native had a stroke average of 73.42 in the fall, participating in all four tournaments.
Junior Casey Fernandez will tee off in the No. 3 position. The McAlester, Okla., native averaged 73.50 strokes per round in the fall while leading the team with four rounds of par or better.
Junior Drew Kirby will tee off in the No. 4 position. The Baton Rouge, La., native is averaged 74.44 strokes in the fall.
Teeing off in the No. 5 position is sophomore Michael Perez. The McAlester, Okla., native had a stroke average of 73.83 in two tournaments in the fall.
The teams will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. Live stats will be available through GolfStat.com.
