Kesterson Collects Top 10 Finish in Fall Finale
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – In the last tournament of the fall season, Southern Miss men’s golfers Walker Kesterson collected his second career top 10 finish. Kesterson cared a one-over 73 today and a one-over 217 through three rounds of play at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational
This is Kesterson’s best finish since a 5th place mark at last year’s Sam Hall Intercollegiate. Kesterson finished ahead of the No. 33, 46 and 82 nationally ranked golfers and tied with No. 1 and 52.
The sophomore’s final 18 include two subpar holes, a birdie and an Eagle, and the Hartsburg, Mo. native collected 26 total pars, seven birdies and an eagle over the two days of competition. Kesterson’s Eagle came on the par 5, 516-yard ninth hole and was one of only four on the day. His round also included a three spot leaderboard climb.
Matt Lorenz’s one-over 73 in the final round propelled him 13 spots up the leaderboard to 27th overall. He carded a 10-over 226 tournament total and gathered three birdies in the ending round. Matching Kesterson, he also sank an Eagle on the ninth hole.
Brian Richards ended in a six way tie for 36th, finishing at 14-over and ending with a total score of 230
The Golden Eagles finished in 8th overall and the Jerry Weeks' coached squad was one of only four teams to have multiple Eagles over the 54 holes.
To open their spring season, Southern Miss will return to Mobile, Ala. for the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate held Feb 12 through 13.
