Two Men’s Golfers in Top 25 through Two Rounds

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss men’s golfers Walker Kesterson and Brian Richards occupy spots in the top 25 through two rounds at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational.

Kesterson fired an even-par 144 on the day and sits in a five way tie for 10th, ahead of the No. 1, No.33, No. 52 and No. 82 nationally ranked golfers. He tallied six birdies and 24 pars. The Hartsburg, Mo. native is a combined two-under on the back nine and will be paired with R.J. Keur of UAB and Patrick Bridges of Wofford for the final round.

With the help from four-straight birdies, Brian Richards climbed 14 spots on the leaderboard during the second round. The freshman is tied for 23rd with a combined score of four-over 148. He collected a total of 23 pars and five birdies over the 36 holes.

Matt Lorenz and Derick Kelting come next on the leaderboard, tied for 40th and 42nd, respectively. Lorenz logged a nine-over 153 and Kelting a 10-over 154.

Matt Codd shot a 26-over 170 and will begin tomorrow’s round in 64th.

The team carded a 23-over 599 on the day and is in 7th place. The team compiled 107 total pars, 20 birdies and the third best par 5 scoring average.

Southern Miss, teeing off with the Blazers and Terriers, will start at hole 10’s tee box every nine minutes starting at 9:24. The rounds stats can be found at Golfstat.com.
