Freshman Brian Richards Tied for 15 after Two Rounds
The freshman's opening round was his new career best
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss Freshman Brian Richards is currently tied for 15th overall after shooting an even-par 144 after two rounds.
The freshman fired a three-under 69 in the first round, setting a new career low and tying the team’s second lowest single round score on the year. Richards holed seven total birdies on the day, including sinking four on holes 10-14 in the first round.
The Gulf Breeze, Fla. native bested the next closest score in his group, made up of golfers from Nebraska, Abilene Christian and Rice, by four strokes. He also owns the field’s second best par 3 scoring average after a full day.
Walker Kesterson shot a five-over 149 and is tied for 47th. He’s collected five birdies through two rounds and also has the best total score of his group.
Tied for 57th, Matt Lorenz sits right behind Kesterson after collecting a seven-over 151. Lorenz carded three straight birdies on holes 10-12 in his first round.
Derick Kelting and Matt Codd round out the Golden Eagle roster. Kelting will begin tomorrow’s final round tied for 68th after shooting a nine-over 153 and Codd will start 84th after scoring a 15-over 159.
Southern Miss will be paired with UTA and Houston Baptist for the last round of competition. The Golden Eagles will begin teeing off at 8:54 a.m. and will go every nine minutes until 9:30 a.m.
Southern Miss, shooting a 21-over 597, sits in 14th place as a team.
