South Bend, Ind. - Junior Casey Fernandez fired a final round 69 to finish even par in tenth-place at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic. The tournament was hosted by Notre Dame and was played at the par-71, 7,023-yard Warren Golf Course.
The 69 is Fernandez' fourth round of par or better this year and the 17th of his career. The 10th-place finish is also his first career top ten finish.
As a team, the Golden Eagles were 34-over par. Southern Miss shot a 290 to finish in 10th-place.
Senior Zach Estep finished 10-over par, tied for 36th-place, after carding a 73. Senior Kevin Brady tied for 51st-place after shooting a 74 to finish 14-over par.
Sophomore Tyler Peggs and senior Jared Smith both tied for 57th-place at 15-over par. Peggs posted a 74, while Smith shot a 76.
Houston won the team competition at five-under par, 15 shots ahead of Michigan State.
Houston's Kyle Pilgrim won the individual title at five-under par, one shot in front of the Georgia Southern's Will Evans and Blair Hamilton of Houston.
Southern Miss returns to the links Oct. 21-22 when it travels to Ruston, La., to participate in the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate.
