Three Golden Eagles Finish in Top 25
Kesterson and Lorenz finished with new career bests
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Sophomores Walker Kesterson and Matt Lorenz continued their pursuit for career records today by both setting new personal bests with their 54-hole totals. The duo finished in the top 25 along with freshman Brian Richards, competing as an individual, at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate. The team finished 8th overall.
Lorenz was Southern Miss’ best finisher, tied for 9th, with a two-under-par 214, besting his previous record by one stroke. This is his third career top 25 finish. Kesterson’s even-par 216, also a one stroke improvement of his career record, put him tied for 13th overall. This is his fourth career top 25 finish.
In only his second collegiate tournament, Richards made a four stroke improvement compared to his last outing, firing a one-over-par 217 and finished tied for 18th.
Redshirt junior Nathan Corchis gathered a five-over-par 77 on the final 18 and ended tied for 53rd. Senior Matt Codd carded a nine-over-par in the last round and tied for 66th and junior Derick Kelting finished tied for 70th after shooting an 80 today.
The team will take a three week break before return back to action in the Rice, Houston and Sam Houston State hosted Bayou City Classic in Pearland, Texas at the Golfcrest Country Club on Oct. 9-10.
