Men's Golf Tied for Second at C-USA Championship
Two Golden Eagles are in the top five heading into tomorrow.
Texarkana, Ark. -- The Southern Miss men's golf team is tied for second-place heading into the third round of the Conference USA Championship. The tournament is being played at the par-72, 6,869-yard Texarkana Country Club.
The Golden Eagles are tied with UAB at one-under par, six strokes behind tournament leader North Texas. They shot a second round 290 a 36-hole score of 575, which the second lowest ever for Southern Miss in the C-USA Championship.
Senior Drew Kirby fired a 69 to sit in a second-place tie at four-under par, one stroke behind tournament leader Jason Roets of North Texas. The 69 is his third round in the 60's this year and the fifth of his career. His 36-hole score of 140 is a career-low and the second lowest ever for Southern Miss in the tournament. It is also his 12th round of par or better this year and the 18th of his career.
Senior Casey Fernandez is tied for fourth-place at three-under par after carding a 71. His 36-hole score of 141 is tied for the third lowest in school history at the C-USA Championship.
Freshman Vasili Kartos is tied for 30th-place at four-over par after carding his second consecutive 74. Junior Hayes Weathersby posted an 80 to sit six-over par in a tie for 41st-place and sophomore Ryan Argotsinger is tied for 52nd-place at eight-over par after posting a 76.
Play begins tomorrow at 8 a.m. CT, with Southern Miss teeing off at 9:20 a.m.
