Argotsinger Tied for Seventh while Eagles in Sixth after Opening Day of C-USA Championships
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Senior Ryan Argotsinger (Lee's Summit, Mo.) fired one-under 71 to lead the Southern Miss men's golf team after the opening day of the C-USA Championships being played at the Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Ark.
The championship consists of 54 holes of stroke play on the par 72, 6,969-yard course over three days, April 23-25. Should the Golden Eagles be one of the top four teams following the third day, then Southern Miss would qualify for match play on the final day to determine the team champion.
Argotsinger led the field over the first 18 holes in par 4 scoring, shooting a minus-three on those holes, as he currently ranks tied for seventh in the event.
Freshmen Matt Lorenz (Gulf Shores, Ala.) and Walker Kesterson (Hartsburg, Mo.) rounded out the Golden Eagle lineup with a 77 and 78, respectively. Lorenz sits in a 43rd-place tie, while Kesterson is tied for 46th.
The Golden Eagles shot 296 as a team and are only 13 strokes behind lead North Texas, who tallied a 283. UTEP is next at 287, followed by Charlotte at 289, Middle Tennessee at 294 and UAB 295. After Southern Miss came Marshall (297), Rice and WKU (299), UTSA (302), Louisiana Tech, Florida Atlantic and Old Dominion (307).
