Men's Golf Takes 14th-Place at Old Waverly Collegiate
Kevin Jorden fired a career-best 66 in the final round.
West Point, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's golf team finished in 14th-place at the Old Waverly Collegiate. The tournament was hosted by Mississippi State and was played at the par-71, 7,088 Old Waverly Golf Club.
The Golden Eagles shot 291-285 to finish 17over par, three shots back of Louisiana-Lafayette and Memphis.
Senior Trent Hillis and sophomore Kevin Jorden tied for 28th-place at four-over par. Hillis fired a 72 in the second round and followed that with a 74. The 72 was his first round of par or better this year and the third of his career. He also set career-highs for 36-hole score of (146) and 54-hole score (220).
Jorden shot a 76 but fired a career-best 66 in the final round. The 66 was his sixth round of par or better this year and is the second-lowest third round score in school history.
Senior Kevin Brady tied for 35th-place at five-over par after posting consecutive 73's. Junior Drew Kirby shot two straight 72's to tie for 41st-place at six-over par. He now has four rounds of par or better this year and five for his career. Senior Zach Estep closed with a 74 and 77 to finish 18-over par in 77th-place.
Mississippi State won the tournament at five-under par, one shot ahead of second-place Cincinnati. Mississippi State Barrett Edens and Marco Iten of Austin Peay shared medalist honors at nine-under par.
Southern Miss returns to the links next week when it travels to Madison, Miss., for the Reunion Intercollegiate, April 14-15.
