Ryan Argotsinger Sits in Tie for Third after Opening Day of Old Waverly Collegiate
The senior fired a three-under 69 in the rain-shortened tournament.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss senior Ryan Argotsinger (Lee’s Summit, Mo.) shot a three-under par 69 to lead the Golden Eagles to a 10th place showing in the 16-team field after the opening day of the Old Waverly Collegiate being played at the Old Waverly Golf Club Monday.
Argotsinger registered five birdies over the opening round to hold a third-place tie after one round at the par 72, 7,088-yard course, which was trimmed from 36 to 18 holes due to a huge storm that took place Sunday night throughout the entire state.
He is one of five golfers that shot a 69 over the first round, trailing co-leaders Dawson Armstrong of Lipscomb and Chris Guglielmo of Kennesaw State by four strokes.
Freshman Matt Lorenz (Gulf Shores, Ala.) added a 74, while sophomore Derick Kelting (Amarillo, Texas) added a 75 to hold a 33rd- and 47th-place ties, respectively. Junior Matt Codd (Red Deer, Alberta) holds a 72nd-place tie after firing a 77, while sophomore Nathan Corchis (Water Sound, Fla.) added an 80 to sit in an 82nd-place tie.
Both USF and Kennesaw State fired a team score of five-under par 283, while Lipscomb (284) holds third and Mississippi State and Chattanooga are each fourth with a 289. Cincinnati finds itself in sixth at 290, followed by Ole Miss (291), McNeese State and Kansas State (293), Southern Miss (295), Louisiana Tech (296), Rice (297), Louisiana-Lafayette, Memphis ad South Alabama (298), along with Southeastern Louisiana (299).
The final 18 holes take place on Tuesday with the Golden Eagles hitting off the No. 10 tee starting at 9 a.m. Fans can follow second-round action here.
