Men's Golf Takes Fifth-Place at BancorpSouth Intercollegiate

Madison, Miss. - Southern Miss shot a final round 292 to finish 18-over par in fifth-place at the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate, hosted by Ole Miss and played at the par 72, 7,305-yard Reunion Golf & Country Club.

Junior Kevin Brady shot a final round 74 to finish tied for 14th-place at three-over par. It is his fourth top 20 finish of the season and the eighth of his career. Junior Zach Estep tied for 22nd-place after shooting a 74 to finish five-over par.

Sophomore Casey Fernandez fired a 71, his best round of the spring, to finish six-over par, tied for 25th-place. It is his seventh round of par or better this year and the 13th of his career.

Junior Jared Smith tied for 34th-place at nine-over par after posting a final round 73. The 34th-place finish, as well as his 54-hole score of 225, are both career-bests.

Sophomore Matt McKagen, playing as an individual, finished 16-over par, tied for 61st-place, after posting a 78. Freshman Michael Perez closed the scoring for the Golden Eagles with a 78, tied for 65th-place at 20-over par.

Mississippi State won the team tournament at 18-under par, 15 strokes ahead of Central Arkansas.

UCA's James Newton earned medalist honors at 10-unde par, two shots ahead of second-place Steven Fox of UT-Chattanooga.

Southern Miss returns to the links next week, April 8-9, when it stays in-state to participate in the Old Waverly Collegiate, hosted by Mississippi State and played at Old Waverly Country Club in West Point.
