Men’s Golf Finishes with 10th Place Showing at Bob Sitton Invitational
The Golden Eagles shoot a 296 each day in the 54-hole event.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men’s golf team shot a 296 for the third consecutive day to capture a 10th-place showing Thursday in the Bob Sitton Invitational, which was played at the par 71, 6,750-yard TPC Four Seasons in Dallas, Texas.
Freshman Matt Lorenz (Gulf Shores, Ala.) shot the team’s low round over the final round with an even par 71 to finish tied for 38th with a 223 stroke total over the 54-hole event.
After shooting a 74 and a 72 over the first two days, senior Ryan Argotsinger (Lee Summit, Mo.) collected a 74 over his final circuit to end with a team-low 220 total and a 25th-place tie in the 120-player field.
Sophomore Derick Kelting added a final round 72 to end his event with a 224 and a 46th-place tie, while junior Matt Codd (Red Deer, Alberta) added a 78 for a 225 total and a 51st-place tie. Freshman Walker Kesterson (Hartsburg, Mo.) added a final round score of 81 for a 232 and an 81st-place tie.
Arkansas State won the team event with a two-under 852, beating Long Beach State (862) by 10 strokes and TCU (869) by 17 strokes.
Host Oral Roberts (874) finished fourth, followed by Lamar (877), Stephen F. Austin (881), Illinois State (882), UT Arlington (885), Central Arkansas (886), Southern Miss, Texas State (889), WKU (891), Eastern Kentucky (893), Northern Colorado (896), Louisiana Tech (898), Abilene Christian (899), UTRGV (902), Houston Baptist (907), Idaho (912), Nicholls State (913), Missouri State (916), St. John’s (931), Green Bay (931) and Northern Iowa (934).
Zan Luka Stirn of Arkansas State shot a seven-under 206 to win the individual award.
The Golden Eagles return to action Florida Atlantic Slomin Autism Championship at The Fountains Country Club at Lake Worth, Fla., March 25-27.
