Lafayette, La. - The Southern Miss men's golf team shot a final round 290 to finish in ninth-place at the Louisiana Classics. The tournament was hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette and is being played at the par-72, 6,898 Oakbourne Country Club.
The Golden Eagles finished 22-over par.
Sophomore Tyler Peggs shot a 71 to finish tie for 13th-place at even par. It is his fifth career round of par or better and third career top 20 finish.
Junior Casey Fernandez shot a 72 to finish eight-over par, tied for 40th-place. It is his fifth round of par or better this year and 18th of his career.
Senior Kevin Brady and junior Drew Kirby tied for 56th-place at 12-over par. Brady shot a 73 while Kirby closed with a 77.
Sophomore Kevin Jorden finished 14-over par in a 60th-place tie after posting a 74 and senior Jared Smith closed with a 76 to finish in 70th-place, 27-over par.
Illinois won the tournament at 25-under par, six shots ahead of LSU. LSU's Myles Lewis earned medalist honors at 10-under par, three shot in front of teammate Curtis Thompson and Illinois' Charlie Danielson and Thomas Detry.
Southern Miss returns to the links next week when it travels to Eatonton, Ga., for the Linger Longer Invitational, March 22-23.
