Corchis, Richards in top-25 after first round of Tiger Invitational
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Nathan Corchis finished with a 2-under-70 to record to tie for seventh, and Brian Richards also finished tied for No. 22 with just a one-over-73 in the first day of the Tiger Invitational in Opelika, Ala.
Southern Miss currently sits in a tie for No. 7 with Minnesota and Georgia State with an 8-over-296. Corchis had five birdies, including on holes 14 and 15, finishing two-under on the back nine. Richards did the same on seven, 12 and 17.
Rounding out the scoresheet are Matt Codd (four-over 76) at No. 54, Matt Lorenz (five-over 77) at No. 65 and Derick Kelting (eight-over 80) at No. 84.
Codd was two-over on the front nine before hitting par on eight of nine holes to close it out, excluding his birdie on 17.
The seventh-place showing ties for the team's third-best on the season after the opening round.
The host Auburn Tigers, No. 9 in the nation, lead the way with a 7-under-281.
