Final Stats

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The final round of the Louisiana Classics golf tournament in Lafayette, La., boasted windy conditions and challenging pin positions. Although the course played tougher on Tuesday, the Southern Miss men's golf team matched their second round score of 304, for a three-day total of 899, tying for seventh in the event.

Being played at the par-72 Oakbourne Golf Club, Kent State won the tournament with a 21-under par score of 843 (281+280+282) to capture their second tournament win of the year.

Southern Miss junior Matt Codd (73+71+78=222, plus-6) led the team with a tie for 17th-place, which included a 5-under total on all Par 5s this week.

"I think as a team we did some things well and other things poorly, looking back on the plan we had going into the week," said Codd. "Moving forward, we have some work to do around the greens as a whole as well as on the individual level."

Senior Ryan Argotsinger posted scores of 75 for each of the three rounds putting him in a tie for 31st place with a 225 total.

"We didn't play nearly as well as we are capable of, but we competed very well the first round with very windy conditions and tough competition," said Argotsinger, the Lee's Summit, Mo., native. "It's always a good test to play a tournament with four Top 25 teams in the nation. That competition should help us moving forward."

Freshman Matt Lorenz shot a final round 74 to jump up the leaderboard 20 spots and finish tied for 39th with a 228.

Both sophomore Willie Hammond (+13) and freshman Walker Kesterson (+13) rounded out the Golden Eagles scorecard finishing tied for 45th each with 229.

Sophomore Derick Kelting (76+78+77=231, plus-15), playing in the event as an individual, finished in a tie for 60th.

Sam Burns of LSU posted a 10-under total of 206 (70+68+68) to win the Individual title.

The Golden Eagles return to action March 14-16 at the ORU Spring Break Invitational in Dallas, Texas.
