Brian Richards Ends Louisiana Classics as Highest Golden Eagle Finisher
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Freshman Brian Richards climbed seven spots on the final day of the 33rd Louisiana Classics, carding a one-over 73 and totaling five-over 221 overall, to end the tournament positioned as Southern Miss’ highest finisher.
The Gulf Greeze, Fla. native sat in a seven way tie for 52nd when all was said and done at the Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette, La., collecting two birdies today and nine for the duration of the tournament. This is third time that Richards has been the Golden Eagles’ best or second finishing player.
Matt Codd also finished tied for 52nd after a three-over 75 in the closing round. The senior was the tournament’s fourth highest individual competitor and tallied the fourth most pars with 40.
Nathan Corchis fired the team’s best round of the day, one-under 71, after sinking three birdies on the back nine and now owns four rounds of par or better on the season. The redshirt junior tied for 63rd with a total score of seven-over 223.
Willie Hammond tied for 71st, Derick Kelting tied for 74th and Walker Kesterson was 83rd after individually shooting five-over 75, five-over 75 and eight-over eight 80 on the final day. Hammond scored a 10-over 226 for the tournament. Kelting and Kesterson notched a 12-over 228 and a 21-over 237, respectively.
The team finished 15th overall, scoring a 32-over 896 for the tournament.
The squad will be back in action March 4-6 at the Auburn hosted Tiger Invitational in Mobile, Ala.
