Men's Golf Finishes in 11th-place at Season Opening Mobile Bay Intercollegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss shot a final round 297 to finish in 11th-place at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, played at the par-72, 7,160 Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course.

The Golden Eagles finished 24-over par for the tournament.

Sophomore Zach Estep fired a final round 72 to finish tied for 22nd-place at three-over par. It is his 11th career round of par or better.

Freshman Casey Fernandez and senior Nick Brown both shot 75's to tie finish six-over par in a 34th-place tie.

Senior Derek Plucienski tied for 50th-place after shooting a 75 to finish nine-over par and sophomore Kevin Brady tied for 70th-place at 15-over par after shooting a 75.

Middle Tennessee State won the team tournament at six-under par with a 54-hole score of 858. Memphis finished in second-place, one shot back at five-under par and Wake Forest finished one-over par in third-place.

Mississippi State Alex Rowland and Lee Bedford of Wake Forest tied for medalist honors at four-under par.

In the USA Individual Tournament, sophomore Trent Hillis tied for third-place after shooting a final round 71 at five-over par. Freshman Drew Kirby tied for 22nd-place at 16-over par after shooting a second straight 79 and freshman Matt McKagen shot a 79 to finish in 29th-place at 20-over par.

The Golden Eagles return to the links in two weeks at the Louisiana Classics on March 5-6.
