Corchis Shoots Season Best Round For Top 25 Finish in Mobile
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss men's golfer Nathan Corchis shot a two-under 70 in the final round of the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate to collect an even 216 score for the whole tournament, the second best relative to par score of his career, and finish tied for 12th overall in Mobile, Ala.
The Sunshine State product started the day by posting a one-under 71 to finish the second round and tallied four birdies and 11 pars in the final round to cap the tournament. This is Corchis' first top 25 finish this season and his best finish since he tied for 6th overall at last season's Jim Rivers Intercollegiate. The redshirt junior now has three round of par or better on the season, one short of tying his career record for most in a single-season.
Walker Kesterson, Matt Codd and Matt Lorenz all tied for 67th at 14-over 230 after shooting a three-over 75, six-over 78 and nine-over 81, respectively. Lorenz finished his second round with a two-under 70 to gather his second best round of his career
Willie Hammond totaled a five-over 77, his best round of the tournament, to finish the 54 holes at 19-over 235, tied for 76th.
Brian Richards was the top Southern Miss finisher in the individual tournament, played on the Magnolia Grove Falls Course, and tied for 14th with an even 216 for the tournament. Richards, who also calls the Sunshine State home, put together back-to-back rounds of one-under 71, marking the most individual rounds of par or better on the season with eight.
The team finished the tournament 38-over at 902 and finished 16th.
The Golden Eagles will hit the links next at the Oakbourne Country Club for the 33rd Louisiana Classics Feb. 26-27.
