Corchis Leads Squad after Rain Delayed Round in Mobile
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss men’s golfer Nathan Corchis leads the Golden Eagles and is tied for 18th overall with a score of one-over par at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate in Mobile, Ala. The second round of play was halted due to rain and will resume tomorrow at 8 a.m. CT.
The redshirt junior shot a three-over 75 in the first round and will be two-under when play continues. The Water Sound, Fla. native has five holes to play before beginning his third and final round. Corchis has collected five birdies though the 30 holes that have been played.
Redshirt senior Matt Codd trails Corchis by three strokes at five-over after the day of play and is tied for 39th. Codd is two-over in his second round and holed four birdies on the day. He scored a three-over 75 in the first round
Tied for 44th and just one stroke behind Codd is sophomore Matt Lorenz. The Gulf Shores, Ala. native will start on hole 10 and is one-under on his second set of 18 after a first round of seven-over 79.
Rounding out the starting five is sophomore Walker Kesterson, tied at 61st with a nine-over and a six-over 78 in the first round, and sophomore Willie Hammond, tied for 69th with an 11-over total, collecting an eight-over 80 on the first go-around.
Southern Miss will finish the remaining 23 holes tomorrow paired with Nicholls, Richmond and Samford. The team is currently 13th overall with a total score of 307, 21-over, and has moved two spots up the leaderboard since the end of the first round.
