Christmas Day Quiet for Southern Miss Football
SHREVEPORT, La. - Other than a mid-afternoon practice, Christmas Day here for the Southern Miss football team has been a quiet one.
The Golden Eagles woke up to an early morning breakfast, before members of the team, coaching and support staffs, along with their families, attended a Christmas service led by Mitchell Williams, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Multi-Area Director, Southeast Mississippi.
Following that service, the Golden Eagles then went into meetings before heading to the Independence Bowl for an hour and 40-minute afternoon practice as they get ready to face Florida State in the 42nd annual Walk-On's Independence Bowl, Wednesday, Dec. 27, at 12:30 p.m. The game will air on ESPN as well as an affiliate of the Southern Miss IMG Sports Network.
The team then sat down for Christmas dinner following practice, before enjoying much of the remainder of the day to enjoy some free time. The squad was scheduled for more offensive and defensive meetings later this evening.
This was the third day for the Golden Eagles in the city of Shreveport, after arriving here Saturday afternoon.
The team will go through a final walk-through on Tuesday, before playing in a bowl game for the third-straight year the following day.
