Football Arrives in Shreveport for Walk-On's Independence Bowl

Dec. 23, 2017

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - After finishing an early Saturday morning practice on campus, the Southern Miss football team took off for its 2017 bowl destination, making the four-plus hour trip to north Louisiana.

The Golden Eagles arrived at their team hotel at the Hilton Shreveport in the middle of the afternoon and got settled in before going over to the Riverview Theater that evening for "The Big Game Show."

Both Southern Miss and Florida State played in a series of six-game game show-type games and the Seminoles defeated the Golden Eagles 4-2 in the gaming session. Still, fun was had for all during the hour-long program.

Prior to the event, Allen Fails, Jr., collected the school's nod for its scholar-athlete of the bowl game and was awarded a trophy for his efforts. Fails will also provide a bowl diary for Golden Eagle fans during the week at SouthernMiss.com.

The Golden Eagles then were given a little time to see the sights Saturday night, before returning to work Sunday.

Southern Miss starts its Sunday with a Fellowship of Christian Athletes breakfast, before heading to its first practice in Shreveport. Later that evening, the team will then enjoy Christmas Eve team dinner at one of the local locations of Walk-On's Bistreaux.

Southern Miss meets Florida State in this 42nd annual event, Wednesday, Dec. 27, at 12:30 p.m. The game can be seen on ESPN and also heard on one of the affiliates of the Southern Miss IMG Sports Network.

Tickets can still be purchased for the event by going to SouthernMissTickets.com.
