Football Arrives in New Orleans for Saturday Bowl Game
NEW ORLEANS, La. - It was travel day for the Southern Miss football team.
The Golden Eagles took to the road south Wednesday afternoon in advance of the 16th annual R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl contest this Saturday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Game time is set for 8 p.m., and can be seen on ESPN as well as be heard on one of the affiliates of the Southern Miss IMG Sports Network.
Under first-year coach Jay Hopson, the Golden Eagles reach the postseason for the second-consecutive season and the 24th overall. They play in their fifth New Orleans Bowl and hold a 3-1 record in those affairs.
Southern Miss, which practiced on campus earlier in the day, arrived at its team hotel in downtown New Orleans right around rush hour and immediately began enjoying its experience by attending a team event at Shamrock, which featured fun and games for the players to kick off their stay in the city.
On Thursday, the Golden Eagles will practice at the Superdome. In addition, a few players will participate in the bowl’s media luncheon, while some other players will visit Children’s Hospital in the city. The day concludes with Southern Miss Night at the New Orleans Pelicans game, in which the team will be in attendance. The Pelicans will play the Indiana Pacers at 7 p.m. Fans wishing to attend the game can click here for special pricing.
