HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss senior place kicker Corey Acosta (Memphis, Tenn.) and sophomore offensive lineman Cameron Tom (Baton Rouge, La.) were each named to the 2014 Conference USA All-Academic Football Team on Thursday afternoon as announced by the league office.

C-USA Football saw 15 student-athletes named to the 2014 All-Academic Team, including four that earned Academic All-America honors. Rice led the way with three selections, while Marshall, Old Dominion and Southern Miss each had two honorees apiece. The team is comprised of three sophomores, four juniors, seven seniors and a graduate student. The all-academic team consists of student-athletes who have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and are a starter or key reserve for their team. The squad is selected by the league's football media relations directors for football.

Acosta, who was tabbed as a second-team Academic All-American, holds a 3.81 grade point average in biological sciences through his studies at Southern Miss, while Tom has posted a 3.80 GPA as a business major. The duo were also first-team Academic All-District honorees, as announced in November.

Acosta finished a strong senior campaign in 2014, leading Conference USA in both field goals and made percentage. His 19 field goals during the year is third on the school's single-season list. For his career, he placed third in field goals made with 43 and third in attempts (64). His final tally of 201 points puts him in fourth on the career charts.

Tom was a starter at center for the offensive line. The 2013 Conference USA All-Freshman selection moved to center in the offseason after spending his rookie campaign at tackle. The sophomore helped the team rush for 1,149 yards, while passing for an additional 3,231 for a total offensive production of 4,380. Tom played and started in all 12 games on the year for the Golden Eagles.
