Practice Continues With Senior Day in Sight
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The University of Southern Mississippi football team continued practice in preparation for its football game this weekend with Middle Tennessee at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at Roberts Stadium (2:30 p.m.).
The game will be the 10th of 10 television appearances for the Golden Eagles this season. This will also be the third appearance on CSS for Southern Miss.
The team worked out in full pads in preparation for the final game at The Rock this season. Saturday's game marks the final home contest for the 2013 senior class. This class was part of the 2011 Conference USA championship team and went to two bowl games, including the 2010 Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl and the 2011 Hawai'i Bowl.
"[The seniors] have been great," head coach Todd Monken said. "They have unbelievably bought in to our staff and worked awfully hard; tried to lead; tried to do things the right way; and I appreciate that about them."
Southern Miss and Middle Tennessee meet on the gridiron for just the second time in school history with the Blue Raiders winning the previous game. The last time the two teams faced each other was in the 2009 R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.
Middle Tennessee is in its first season of Conference USA. It will be the fifth league newcomer the Golden Eagles play in 2013. The others were FIU, North Texas, Louisiana Tech and Florida Atlantic.
In addition to Senior Day, the Southern Miss / Middle Tennessee game will serve as USM Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day. There will be a "Buy One, Get One" ticket special for all Southern Miss faculty and staff members with a valid ID card. Faculty and staff members may purchase tickets at the Pat Ferlise Ticket Office during the week or at the game.
