Football Prepares for Final Home Game
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss football team finishes its 2013 home schedule this week when they entertain Conference USA newcomer Middle Tennessee. The game completes the only portion of the schedule for the Golden Eagles in which USM played consecutive home games. Southern Miss hosted Florida Atlantic at home last week.
The game between the Golden Eagles and Blue Raiders is slated for 2:30 p.m. at Carlisle-Faulkner Field at Roberts Stadium. Saturday's game marks the final home contest for the 2013 senior class. This class was part of the 2013 Conference USA championship team and went to two bowl games, including the 2010 Beef `O' Brady's Bowl and the 2011 Hawai'i Bowl.
Southern Miss and Middle Tennessee meet on the gridiron for just the second time in school history with the Blue Raiders winning the previous game. The last time the two teams faced each other was in the 2009 R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. MT quarterback Dwight Dasher ran for 201 yards and two touchdowns and added two more scoring throws along with 162 passing yards to lead the Blue Raiders to the 42-32 victory.
Middle Tennessee is in its first season of Conference USA. It will be the fifth league newcomer the Golden Eagles play in 2013. The others were FIU, North Texas, Louisiana Tech and Florida Atlantic.
The game will be the 10th of 10 television appearances for the Golden Eagles this season. This will also be the third appearance on CSS for Southern Miss. The FIU and Florida Atlantic games were also broadcast on that network. The Golden Eagles' last 10 games have been televised.
In addition to Senior Day, the Southern Miss / Middle Tennessee game will serve as USM Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day. There will be a "Buy One, Get One" ticket special for all Southern Miss faculty and staff members with a valid ID card. Faculty and staff members may purchase tickets at the Pat Ferlise Ticket Office during the week or at the game.
